Harpsichord Motion

Sometime after the release of 2006's Bremsstrahlung CD, I happened upon the music of Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Co. on an electronic music programme. Shortly thereafter, I reached out to founding member David Borden, told him how much I appreciated the group, and asked if he would give a listen to some of my original music.

Not only was David quite appreciative and supportive, he remarked that many of the compositions on my earlier releases were surprisingly reminiscent of Mother Mallard - surprising, because I had never heard of them or their music until that time. When working on 2007's Moog Opus No.1, I was inspired to write this tune as a deliberate homage to the groundbreaking electronic ensemble of the 70's. The title was an amalgamation of their tracks, "Harpsichord Truck" and "Ceres Motion."

Preciousness or audaciousness aside, it is one of my favorite tracks on the album - I was honored that David asked me to send a copy of Moog Opus No.1 to his creative partner in MM, Steve Drews. Similarly, Steve was not only complimentary, he made the same observation of how my work at times hearkened to the early days of Mother Mallard. You can bookend this track with Moog Opus Redux's piece, "The Mallard Has Landed."
